A bit about Me and We

Hello and Welcome!  Silence in the City is a growing community of silence seekers in Toronto.  There are group meditations, retreats and, education.  At the moment there is a group that meditates together every other Saturday afternoon in Bloor West Village, Toronto.   We discuss the richness of silence and the challenges and wonders of our evolution as individuals and a society.  Have a look at the blog to see some of the things we have been exploring of late.  We support each other in our pursuit of healing through deeper more meaningful silence and discuss how we go about creating more in our lives and communities.

Zoja Popovic is a community member and participant in Silence in the City meditations and is the life force behind our digital existence.  Her commitment, creativity and open heart is the source for so much inspiration.

My name is Toni Gordon and I facilitate groups as well as retreats.  I am a registered psychotherapist with a private practice in Bloor West Village.  Here is a little bit about me, although you can find a lot more on my psychotherapy site - tonigordon.com.

I have been working in the field of healthcare, community care and psychotherapy for almost 30 years. My private practice has been located in Bloor West Village, Toronto for the last 10 years. Blending Eastern and Western wisdom has been a strong part of my journey throughout my practice. I have also been a meditator for over 12 years. I am extremely passionate about both psychotherapy and the healing practice of silence. In particular, I am interested in the healing potential of extended silence in group meditation. Both of these practices move us deeper inward, closer to our authentic selves, which I believe is the most healing and yet adventurous journey a human can take.

One of the interesting ironies of my life is that I had spent more than 15 years in the hallowed halls of higher learning in North America, and now my life is dedicated to emptying out my brain.

My passion has increasingly turned to teaching about the incredible evolutionary opportunities I believe are available to us in silence, and to guide us below the mental frenetics that immerse us in the city.  My work has increasingly moved towards using my own connection to present moment to encourage the healing energies of others, whether that is one on one or in a group.  The brilliance, the healing, the wisdom of the universe itself, are available to us below the busy dealings of our minds and egos.

I love participating in and leading retreats and I make them both part of my work and personal journey. I am dedicated to a daily meditation practice, sitting in silence for an hour a day, in addition to hosting group meditations every other week.

Getting quiet, finding out, and giving full force to what operates underneath the mental chatter has contributed to my evolution in extraordinary, exciting and inarticulable ways. If this is a journey for you, I hope you will join us at some point along your adventure.
